John H. B. Latrobe was an author, lawyer, artist and inventor. He was born in Philadelphia on May 4, 1803, and was educated in Washington and Baltimore. He attended West Point, moved to New Jersey and was involved with the expansion of the railroads, specifically the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad.
